School Counselor - Bayless Junior High School
Reports to Building Principal 
I.RESPONSIBILITIES

Plan, organize, coordinate, and implement the district’s counseling program to successfully meet the education needs of the students in three major areas:  knowledge of self and others, career planning and exploration, and educational and vocational development 

II.QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Master’s degree in counseling or guidance and counseling
  2. Counselor certification issued by Missouri Department of Elementary & Secondary Education
  3. Certification in Character Education
  4. One or two years experience in counseling and classroom experience preferred  

III.FUNCTIONS

  1. Implement the state and building guidance curriculum, which includes developmentally appropriate activities or lessons
  2. Provide responsive services to groups or individuals to address immediate needs and concerns of students
  3. Consult with teachers, parents and staff regarding the needs of students
  4. Conduct Care Team meetings and assist with special education referrals
  5. Actively engage community and refer students with severe problems to appropriate resources in consultation with their parents
  6. Facilitate developmentally appropriate activities, which help students plan, monitor and manage their individual educational and career plans
  7. Coordinate state and local assessments
  8. Evaluate and revise the building guidance program to meet student needs
  9. Conduct annual surveys of the school population as directed by the administration and/or model guidance program
  10. Participate in system support activities, which contribute to the effective operation of the entire school
  11. Initiates and facilitates character education activities throughout the school serving as the school liaison to district events/activities
  12. Supports district instructional model (SIOP) through any direct instruction of guidance curriculum
  13. Actively participate in professional growth activities
  14. Become knowledgeable of common core standards and next generation assessment and implications for student/course scheduling
  15. Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as assigned  

VI.PERIOD OF EMPLOYMENT

  1. Ten (10) months annually
